Soar With Your Strengths
Published in Hardcover by Delacorte Press (October, 1992)
Authors: Donald O. Clifton and Paula Nelson
Average review score:

Highly recommend
The truths in this book seem so obvious when you read it, yet it's the opposite of what's been taught and praciticed for so many years. Don't waste time trying to perfect what you don't do well, you'll never make a weakness into a strength. Find out what you do well and become so good at it that what you don't do well won't matter. Unfortunately, I recognized all too well all of the clues that indicate operating in a weakness rather than a strength. The good news is that I can stop trying to perfect my weaknesses and start enjoying my strengths. A must read for managers, coaches, career counselors and especially young people trying to figure out what it is they want to do with their lives.

A cornerstone to a better future.
Dr. Clifton's "Soar With Your Strengths" has helped me to identify why my carreer has not taken off to this point. I can see now that I have a tendency to focus on my weaknesses, while at the same time making the mistake of overlooking my strengths and ultimate potential.

This book challenges the absurdity of this common mistake and enlightens the reader to a strengths approach as it relates to carreer planning, interpersal relations, etc.

I would encourage anyone unhappy in their current carreer, anyone who wants success to come easy to them, or anyone who has a hand in managing the lifes, or carreers of others to read this book.

Lastly I would like to commend the author on his writting style. This book is truly a joy to read, and to the point.

Thank you Dr. Clifton for sharing this book with the world.

Life Changing
This book is both an easy read and a powerful one. The idea of focusing on maximizing ones' strengths instead of working on ones' weaknesses has been incredibly freeing to me. A friend called it life-changing for him, and I'd have to agree. I'm very excited with the prospects of spending the second half of my work life celebrating and maximizing the use of my strengths and the gifts God has given me!

Stock Split Secrets: Profiting from a Powerful, Predictable, Price-Moving Event
Published in Hardcover by Lighthouse Publishing, Inc. (01 November, 2000)
Authors: Miles Nelson and Darlene Nelson
Average review score:

Stock Split Secrets is Absolutely Amazing!
Stock Split Secrets by Darlene and Miles Nelson stunned me and totally impressed me. The book delivers from A to Z about 100% of what you need to know regarding the important basics on stock splits. It clearly takes you step-by-step through the facinating maze of doing stock splits. The book is fun and easy to read. And it's incredibly well organized and well written for the average person. I would rate it a "10," no doubt about it.

Most books on business are written by over-educated and over- experienced specialists and professors who can't seem to relate to the average person. This isn't so with "Stock Split Secrets." Miles is a communications expert and truly knows how to write a good book.

When you're done with it you feel confident to go out and start doing stock splits, simple as that. It's a totally empowering and enlightening book for those just starting out or the more advanced. This stock book is just a great "how-to-do-it" book.

Of all the books I've read in my life (I've read thousands over the last 30 years) I would have to rate this the #1 best business book of all-I'm not exaggerating. It's the best.

If I could have ONE BOOK on making money out of all the college areas I've studied in over 13 years, this would be the one I would keep out of all the many I've researched and studied from.

In fact - if I could have one book on making money in life, this would be The ONE.

Thank You, Dalrene and Miles for your great contribution!

Mark LaMoure, Helena, MT

A Complete Picture on Stock Spilts
If your looking for a book on stock splits, this is the one to buy. I can't think of an area about splits this doesn't cover in an easy to read manner. If you want to know why companies spilt their stock and how to profit from them, you can't afford not to have read this. It includes some excellent examples of real life trades, which it takes you through step by step. Definitely a must for both the novice investor and the professional.

More than stock Splitz
This book covers far more than stock splits. It teaches you how to take advantage of defined events to earn profits. It is a well written, funny, easy to read book. Get one for you and a second for your broker, plus this book makes a great gift.

Power, Money & Sex: How Success Almost Ruined My Life
Published in Paperback by Word Publishing (August, 1999)
Authors: Deion Sanders, Jim Nelson Black, and T. D. Jakes
Average review score:

Depicts how Sanders grows out of adolescence into manhood.
For any man who has ever had problems with "power, sex or money," this is a must-read. This book covers the trials and triumphs of one of the NFL's most controversial - yet entertaining athletes of all-time. Find out where Deion receives the necessary strength to play in both the World Series and the Super Bowl. You'll be amazed!

A very powerful depiction of how God can work in our lives.
I enjoyed getting to know a man that I have been familiar with from the day that he signed to play football with Florida State University. I have been a fan of Deion Sanders for many years and this book gave me more respect for the MAN as well as the athlete. I encourage everyone to read this book and examine their own lives as they do and find out where they are in their daily walk. Truly inspirational.

The story of how Deion Sanders turned his life around.
This is a must read book for any Prime Time fan. Deion has always been big-time on the field, but now he has spiritual guidance to help him. It's a great story to show others where their priorities should be.

Guide to Owning a Ragdoll Cat
Published in Paperback by TFH Publications (November, 1997)
Authors: Susan Nelson and Gary Strobel
Average review score:

I'm Convinced
I've been trying to decide on which breed of cat I wanted. This informative book convinced me that Ragdolls are for me. The pictures and details of this breed won me over. I found it to be very helpful in my search of a wonderful new cat.

A reader from Arizona
A wonderful amount of information in a little pocket guide ... I enjoyed this book and found it very useful. It has been difficult to find much information on this wonderful breed, and Ms. Nelson has done a great job trying to impart as many facts as possible while keeping the book a manageable size.

WONDERFUL BOOK!!! RAGDOLLS RULE!!!
Whether a Ragdoll is not yet the most enchanting part of your family, or you are already in love head over heels with three or four of these most precious of felines, Susan Nelson's "Guide To Owning A Ragdoll Cat" is the perfect selection for you. Susan knows what she's talking about when describing the soft sweet Ragdoll personality since she's owned by three of these angels herself. The photos are delightfully crisp and clear, picturing a full range of Ragdoll colors and patterns, even the relatively new lynx and flame... and bring out the devastatingly blue eyes that will hypnotize you as if by magic. Susan makes excellent points about the absolute importance of finding a responsible ethical breeder, and makes clear that meeting several breeders and several visits to catteries is highly desirable. She also points out how large some of the Ragdolls can become, and how important it is to properly support their bodies when picked up. Her description of how to make your house Ragdoll friendly (safe), and how to choose toys is invaluable. She stresses the importance of having a scratch tree available. Care of the Ragdoll's health is discussed in detail, from bathing to grooming to dental hygiene to trimming nails... She discusses how to choose a vet, an extremely important topic, vaccinations, spaying and neutering, common feline illnesses... What to feed baby... Bringing Baby home... going on vacation... breeding, showing... I can't think of a SINGLE THING that she neglected to discuss that would be of consequence to anyone interested in Ragdolls. I am so enthused about this book. I wish I had seen it before I spent so much time trying to decide about bringing a Ragdoll home... and it has cleared up several questions I had once I was owned by my Ragdolls. This book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Susan also publishes a wonderful Ragdoll calendar every year...

Of Men and of Angels (The Galway Chronicles)
Published in Audio Cassette by Thomas Nelson (October, 1998)
Authors: Bodie Thoene, Brock Thoene, and Nelson Audio Library
Average review score:

Good historical read
This second book in the series took me a little longer to get into than the first, perhaps because some time had elapsed between reading them and I had to get reacquainted with all the characters in the village of Ballynockanor.
Written as a religious fiction, it doesn't come off as over moralizing, though the delightful village priest isn't above calling a spade a spade when the main characters act out of jealousy or self-pity.
Because it was a time period I am expecially interested in, the book held my interest even though at times the characters were mildly irrating. Not a great fan of O'Connell, I was left with a sense of wonder of what he almost pulled off in 1843 before traitors and spies were his undoing.

An entertaining and thought provoking read
Bodie and Brock Thoene are a great writing team who protray different places and times in a way that both entertains and makes me want to learn more about the historical period in which the book is set. I did not know much about Irish history but have loved learning from "Only the River Runs Free" and "Of Men & of Angeles." The Galaway Chronicles are a delightful series and I hope more books will follow soon. I can hardly wait start book three later this week. In my view the five "Zion Chronicles" books were the Thoenes' crowning glory. While I can not rate "Of Men and Of Angeles" as highy as these fantastic books, I certainly found this book well worth my time and very enjoyable.

Slow Start Redeemed by Second Half
1843 finds the people of Ireland rallying to free themselves from the rule of their neighbor England. The small community of Ballynockanor is getting caught up in everything as well. Joseph Burke, newly restored to his rightful inheritance, agrees to help his friend Daniel O'Connell with the cause. Little do they know that they not only have to face trouble from England, but also traitors within their own ranks. Meanwhile, Kate Donovan has reacted in anger and bitterness to the events of the last few months, trying her best to shut Joseph out of her life. Will he be able to win her back? And just who is this Tinker that has moved to the area? Can he be trusted?

I must admit I was a little disappointed with this book. The relationship between Kate and Joseph took on a soap operatic quality, the first half was very slow, and I saw the last page coming from the prologue, especially since they'd used that exact same plot device before in a previous book. However, as I got past the first half, the pace really started to pick up. The political struggle became very interesting to me, and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.

While not their best book, it's certainly worth reading. I'm looking forward to picking up the next book and continuing the story.

Revelation: Four Views
Published in Hardcover by Thomas Nelson Publishers (April, 1997)
Authors: Thomas Nelson Publishers and Steven Gregg
Average review score:

As good as a book of this type can get
This is an easy-to-read, clearly articulated description of the main lines of interpretation on this book, presented in parallel format, so you can check one perspective with another right on the same page. As such, this book's main strength is also its main weakness. It offers very clear, unbiased descriptions of the Historicist, Preterist, Futurist, and Spiritual/Idealist views of Rev. 1-19, as well as Premillennial, Postmillenial and Amillennial interpretations of Rev. 20. Thus you get a very well-written articulation of each view (whereas in many other commentaries on Rev., it is difficult to know exactly which approach the author is taking, what implications that approach has on the rest of the book, or what other interpretive options exist.)

What you DON'T get here is an interaction between the views (as in Pate's "Four Views" book); this commentary doesn't point out the strengths or weaknesses that have traditionally been associated with each viewpoint. After reading it, you will understand the differing viewpoints much better, but you won't be much closer to making a good, informed decision yourself, on which approach you think is stronger.

In short, this is an excellent supplementary commentary to have, in addition to another comentary that actually takes a stance on some of the issues. This is definitely a commentary worth having, but get Aune's or Beale's commentaries (for example) in addition for some top-flight research that focuses on drawing conclusions rather than summarizing options.

excellent book for studying Revelation
The greatest contribution the author makes to the study of Revelation is bringing organization to the many interpretations of the apocalypse. He is fair in his presentation, easy to read, and helpful in his own comments. The presentation of the various views in parallel columns is helpful in understanding the approach of each view. I highly recommend the book to those seeking to understand how various people interpret Revelation and to gain a better understanding of the writing themselves.

The most unbiased commentary on Revelation I've ever read...
I was first told about this book by my Professor of NT Studies who saw it at a conference in Denver. He didn't remember what it was called, but I searched and found it. He loved this book so much that he printed out the name, editor & ISBN for the entire class. I picked up a copy of this yesterday, and couldn't be happier.

This commentary parallels unbiased ideas on the for views of Revelation from verse to verse: Extreme Historic, Preterist, Extreme Futurist and Spiritual. Whatever viewpoint the apostle John had, no one knows for sure. I am a Preterist, I believe he was writing the book not only for the seven churches of Asia Minor at the time, but for future purposes. However, I respect the other viewpoints. That is what is so great about this commentary. It gives equal opportunity and authority to every perspective, and makes very well in case (if at all possible) you choose to mix certain views together to form your own. It is a fantastic way to learn 4 times the information in one single book and develop a very good understanding of what the Lord has to offer in His Divine will.

Revelation is a complex book, and one so often underrated and taken as a book only "scholars" can read and enjoy (or at least understand). This commentary defeats that view and is the best commentary I have seen on Revelation to date (even better than the SAD Tim LaHaye Revelation Unveiled). Pick this one up.

Uterine Fibroids: What Every Woman Needs to Know
Published in Paperback by Physicians & Scientists Pub Co (November, 1996)
Authors: Nelson H. Stringer and Tanya Leonello
Average review score:

Mostly Good Info - Super Illustrations - Worth It
The illustrations are what really make this book. Dr. Stringer (may he rest in peace) gives a tremendous amount of useful information. Unfortunately, he fails to give citations to support his statements - and makes do with a bibliography at the end of the book (who can tell what supports which without reading ALL of the sources in their entirety & if you're going to do that, why bother to read the book?). He does clearly (honestly) state that some things are based on observations in his own practice or just his personal opinion - but it's frequently hard for me to sort out what's science and what's personal opinion/experience. For instance, he has a strong opinion on birth control pills and fibroids, which appears to be contrary to much of the science -- so I wish he'd referenced that better. Feeling that he could have been dead wrong on one point, makes other information in the book suspect in my mind.

The Stringer book has a nice respectful attitude toward the patient-reader; it comes off as an honest effort to educate patients, help them deal with fibroids and make treatment decisions; it makes some good explanations; and by far best of all it has those FANTASTIC illustrations. These illustrations made fibroids really come into focus in my head. So, I take the Stringer text with a serious shake of salt - since I know some of it is opinion rather than fact & I often can't tell which is which - and I LOVE THE ILLUSTRATIONS. My opinion: well worth the price for the illustrations alone.

A must read if you have been diagnosed with fibroids!
I found Dr. Stringer's book extremely comprehensive and easy-to-understand. And, it proved to be a great source of knowledge when discussing my fibroid condition with various doctors. Unfortunately, the majority of gynecologists still recommend hysterectomy for the treatment of fibroids despite other alternatives which are now available. This book alerted me to these other potential treaments in a very clear and concise manner. I would highly recommend that any woman diagnosed with fibroids read this book.

A MUST READ if you have a uterine fibroid tumor.
Dr. Stringer's book "Uterine Fibroids : What Every Woman Needs to Know" gave me the information I needed when faced with a serious medical condition. I was diagnosed with a large fibroid tumor, and when my symptoms became problematic, I searched for information on the topic. Although this is a common medical condition, there are very few books available that even discuss the topic. I obtained several opinions from local physicians which were mostly the same: "have a hysterectomy". Dr. Stringer's book informed me of other alternatives which are much less invasive and have a much shorter recovery time.

I was able to undergo a laparoscopic myomectomy (which was performed by Dr. Stringer in Chicago) whereby I was back on my feet the same day and was able to resume normal activity in less than a week. A hysterectomy would have had me in the hospital for several days with a 4-6 week recovery time. Since I am only 36 years old I also still have the option to have another child which would have been gone with a hysterectomy.

I credit Dr. Stringer's book with providing new information that I could not get in any other book or from other physicians. If anyone has a fibroid tumor they should read this book and seek treatment early as alternative treatments are most beneficial when applied before the tumor becomes too large. In addition, if you have symptoms (such as pelvic pain, or heavy bleeding) Dr. Stringer's book "Uterine Fibroids : What Every Woman Needs to Know" is a MUST READ.

MBA's Guide to Microsoft Excel 2000 : The Essential Excel Reference for Business Professionals
Published in Paperback by Independent Publishers Group (December, 1999)
Author: Stephen L. Nelson
Average review score:

Good for the undergraduate student maybe, but not the MBA
This is a competent, basic introduction to using Microsoft Excel in business and finance; however, its title is misleading in that the MBA student's needs in using Excel in 500-level Finance and Business classes are well beyond the scope of this book. The book is good to have on hand for a quick description of a function, but it adds little more than the F1 Help key does.

Sets The Standard For Excel Books
This well-written book is for the professional business user of Microsoft Excel. The topics cover a range of business uses of Excel, including modeling, statistics, break-even analysis, forecasting, and depreciation. Also included for new users to Excel are QuickPrimers, short tutorials on Excel's worksheet and graphics capability.

The design of The MBA's Guide to Microsoft Excel 2000 is clean and crisp and its contents speak to the user in a friendly yet knowledgeable voice. The book distinguishes itself from other Excel books by the inclusion of EasyRefreshers, a summary of business practices and processes, an additional benefit to the reader.

The MBA's Guide to Microsoft Excel 2000 helps you perform business spreadsheet tasks quickly and easily.

A Great Companion for Business
This book is a great primer: not only for the aspiring MBA, but also for the business type who needs a refresher on how to put together balance sheets and more.

This book is split into three parts: Quick Primers, Excel in Business and Starter Workbooks. With the Quick Primers, anyone can learn to be a pro on Excel. Excel in Business covers basic financial and statistical calculations. The Starter Workbooks provide templates for anyone in business to work out key financial statements and business plans.

The MBA's Guide to Microsoft Excel would also work well as a companion guide for anyone who is taking beginning / intermediate level courses in Accounting or Finance.

Photoshop 6 Killer Tips
Published in Paperback by New Riders (03 October, 2001)
Authors: Scott Kelby and Felix Nelson
Average review score:

Key Word -- Tips, and lots of them
I purchased this book sight unseen on a friend's recommendation. When the book first came, my first impression was, "Oh boy, I spent money on one of these tip books." However, after reading the book, it turned out to be money well-spent.

I've been a faithful Photoshop user for nearly 3 years now, and I have about 75 little stick em notes placed throughout this book. I even had my fair share of "Wow, no way" moments.

Regardless of your level of experience with Photoshop, you will learn something new from this book's concise and well-written tips. If you're looking for "why's" please continue looking elsewhere. If you're looking for tutorials, keep looking. But if you're interested in increasing the speed and productivity from your everday use of the program, this book is definitely one for your shelf.

Photoshop 6 Killer Tips
I have been using Photoshop for about 8 years now & have purchased
several books on the program. This book is one of the best books that I have ever used. The great thing about Scott Kelby's books are that you can start using them as soon as you read them, meaning you don't have to read 12-17 pages before you try out a technique. Also the chances of you finishing this book before it collects dust are very real because the reading is not boring & the book is very intriging. The best asset about this book is if you're new to Photoshop you don't have to be a guru to use this book. The infomation in this book allows you to be productive as soon as you start reading just one page. The title is misleading because it not only offers tips but it allow offers design tips, color correction tips, etc. You will find things in this book that you won't find anywhere else on the program. If you are new to Photoshop this book is crucial until you get up to speed. What separates Scott's books & videos from others is that his teachings are done in a very entertaining approach.

Simply Awesome Killer Book
I read a lot of books, magazines and information on-line. I don't like to recommend something unless I am absolutely sure that it is good. But every now and then there comes a book which is beyond good and "Simply Awesome". This is one of those books. Since I got this book recently, I have not been able to put it down. Each time I turn the page it just seems to get better and better. There are a lot of books on the market that you can read and just put on the shelf.
This book isn't one of them. It's just choked full with so much information that coming back to it is always a pleasure. I wish more books were awesome like this one. This book is one that I am proud to have in my library and also recommend to my friends and colleagues to have in their library too. Scott and Felix have given us a great book to help us add more tools to our digital palette so we can be the best PhotoShop users we can be.
Remember, Knowledge is Power and Killer Knowledge is Killer power.
Thank you Scott and Felix for writing such a Awesome and Killer book.

Sexual Healing
Published in Hardcover by Agate (June, 2003)
Author: Jill Nelson
Average review score:

Bravisimo Ms. Nelson
Three hours ago I received exciting news. Not stunning news-I didn't win the lottery. Darn! But something I read, something I found poignantly thrilling, and basked in its aftermath. Now it was as close as the French pastry in front of me. I feel giddy, and amazingly calm. I feel at this moment like a tigress in a boudoir who is ready to spring into action. Naturally, my associates, with whom I share almost everything, shall hear of this delightful tiding.

According to a reliable source, Jill Nelson has written a literary masterpiece, appropriately titled "Sexual Healing." Happily, I must add my name to this growing list of enthusiasts who recommend the book. To better understand my position on this issue, read on.

Like a heavyweight boxer seeking to devour his opponent, Ms. Nelson delivers a staggering TKO. Hence, Sexual Healing vibrates with sexual zeal and characters that leave a lasting impression.

Thus, the bottom line is purchase the book, and see for
yourself, why this is creativity at its absolute best. Meow!

Peggy Butler...

Sexual Healing
Wow! Jill Nelson leaps out of the non-fiction box and brings all of her writing power with her in the creation of her new novel "Sexual Healing." Her new book is inventive, outrageous, and challenges readers to get out of their boxes and think differently about the world, sex, color and how things are organized. This is a book filled with wonderful characters, great belly laughs throughout, and many new thoughts about things sexual. I am still laughing outloud about the scene in the bank when they go for the loan. Jill exposes race secrets, sexual secrets, and woman secrets with the same great style she used to expose journalism in "Volunteer Slavery." What a writer, what a book, what a great read. This is MUST reading for 2003 and beyond. -- Bill Perry

Sex for the 21st Century
Who would have ever thought that women could have such power over their sexual lives. Jill Nelson gives that power to us in "spades". This amusing, erotic, sometimes alarming, always entertaining first novel is a must-read from beginning to end. Ms. Nelson captures the frustration and loneliness of African-American women and offers a solution which is unorthodox, pleasurable, and, frequently, downright hysterical. The book is erotic and moving as well as roll on the floor funny. Some of the scenes are so steamy that I was loathe to read them on the subway for fear of embarrasing myself! Ms. Nelson's first work of fiction is as well-written and engaging as her previous non-fiction offerings. The main characters, Lydia and Acey, are fully realized, infinitely human, and engaging, and the plotlines' twists and turns keep you turning pages with a fury. I read the entire book over the weekend! Not content to write a book which deals with women's concerns about finding love and/or sex in the 21st century, Ms. Nelson throws political intrigue, race relations, ghost spouses, and transexuals into the mix. All of these elements come together to bring us a read that is at once thought provoking and entertaining. Don't just walk, run to get this book! You won't regret it. And once you've finished reading Sexual Healing, you'll find yourself clamoring for more fiction from this superb and uproarious author.
